Biography
I’m passionate about Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and Artificial Intelligence and I am looking for opportunities to acquire skills and knowledge in these areas, so that in the future I can study for my PhD. I am interested in conducting research on low-cost technologies that can increase access to knowledge and services for people living in rural areas in developing countries.
I would like to explore the use of low-cost technology for conservation and preservation of biodiversity, especially in endangered species, and for the design of water management systems for sustainable agriculture in rural communities.
RESEARCH
I am a member of the Deep Learning Indaba, an organisation whose mission is to strengthen Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence in Africa.
projects
1) Principal Investigator, Mapping marine litter on coastal areas with unmanned aerial systems: Case study at Pemba, Mozambique. The goal of this project is to develop a non-intrusive automatic UAS-based data collection mechanism to collect orthophotos to give insights about Marine Debris in Pemba’s coastline and allow policymakers and scientists to analyse data and infer on coastlines pollution.
2) Co-Investigator, AI for Coral Reef Conservation: Data Collection for Computer Vision in the Vamizi Island. The goal of this project is to develop a non-intrusive automatic data collection mechanism to collect images to give insights about coral reefs in the Vamizi Island and allow biologists to analyze data in real-time and infer on animals’ life story, behaviour, population, and survivorship in Mozambican waters.
