As part of Unilurio’s declared emphasis on language learning, the Department of English is delighted to present our Computer Language Laboratory.

This state-of-the-art computer and multimedia facility offers a stunning array of teaching and learning tools.  

Our Language lab is an effective and complete method designed for students to learn a language through complete language immersion.  This multi-purpose lab design can be used for classrooms, videoconferencing, and student audio-visual activities to promote maximum benefits from our facility.  With its unique design, the Language Lab promotes dynamic teaching approaches, active and collaborative student learning, and extensive incorporation of aspects from around the globe in everyday classroom activities.  Also Our computer stations are set up appropriately to administer the TOEFL exams.

Our Mission

We are committed to promoting and facilitating the acquisition and enhancement of language skills and competency by providing our University community efficient access to an expanding collection of multimedia resources and instructional technology.

Language Lab provides:

  • Language Learning Resources for independent study;
  • Interactive computer tools;
  • Headsets for Listening and Speaking;
  • 20 student computer stations which allows students to comfortably view the teacher and interact with one another via headsets;
  • Recording of audio and oral activities
  • Instructor station;
  • Connections for audio-visual, web, and PowerPoint presentations;
  • Ample whiteboard space for teachers and presenters;
  • Videoconferencing;
  • Printer for instructors and students;
  • Classroom and open lab hours for scheduling throughout the week.

Lab software offers a myriad of features, including an Array of audio/visual and computer-based interactive teaching tools which include: 

  • English Language Videos and CD’s;
  • Books at various levels for Grammar, Listening, Speaking, Writing and Reading with Exercises;
  • Conversation or pronunciation practice with headsets;
  • English Audio Books / Novels, Various Levels;
  • TOEFL Skills;
  • English for Engineering;
  • English for Biology;
  • Portuguese Language Skills.
