Marcelino Inácio Caravela

Director of the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the University of Lúrio, MSc in Applied Ecology, Professor of Botany, Field Biology and Earth Ecology. He studied extensively the diversity of macro-algae in the intertidal zone of Pemba. She began building a greenhouse and a systematic botanical garden, developed research on honey flora and apicola resources and began building a herbarium with specimens from the island and the continete in northern Mozambique and supervises botanical inventories in the mountains of the Taratibu reserve.

Fane Benedito Eduardo Duarte Macueia

He was born on 27 December 1982 in Gurúe, Zambezia. He is an agronomist with a well experienced profession, has a Master’s degree in Ecology, was a lecturer in the discipline of Agriculture and Sustainable Fisheries at the Catholic University of Mozambique (FGTI) and in Biostatistics at ISCTAC, is a lecturer at the University Lúrio-FCN, allocated in the Department of Botany, taught the disciplines of Agricultural and Forestry Mechanization, Agricultural Experimentation, Community Extension and Entrepreneurship, currently teaches the disciplines of Botany, Plant Physiology, Agricultural, Forestry and Livestock Resources. He coordinated at the level of the province of Cabo Delgado the Independent Verification Project of Community Based Nutrition service packages, carried out for InSite, Lda-Deloitte & Touche (Mozambique) Lda-MISAU, he did independent environmental consultancy for Grafex in the Resettlement Action Plan (RAP). He carried out research work on the evaluation of eucalyptus performance in Chikweti forest of Niassa, studies on the adaptation of orange sweet potato varieties for IIAM-CIP and on the structure and composition of native tree flora species of the PNQ,  Oversaw end-of-course work on on farm soybean genotype growth studies, the influence of climate change on agricultural production, plant growth hormone studies, conservation agriculture and is currently working on Marine Conservation and services in Vamizi Island communities for &Beyond as an environmental monitor. His interest is to work continuously on agroecology and biodiversity conservation.

Sidónio Machaieie

Marine Biologist, he is a University Assistant of Faculty of Natural Sciences at Lúrio University (UniLúrio) where he has worked since 2016. Master in Ecology from Lúrio University (2020), Degree in Marine Biology from Eduardo Mondlane University (2014). Affection in the Marine Ecology Department and member of the Environmental and Conservation Research Center (CICA). He develops and participates in several expedition, research and extension works in the context of Conservation of Marine and Coastal Resources in several UniLúrio projects with national and international partnerships, mainly to the subjects of fisheries management and underwater monitoring. Participates in various science training and dissemination activities such as national and international conferences, workshops and training.

Bibiana Américo Fernando Nassongole

She was born 14 January 1991, has a degree in Biological Sciences and a Masters in Ecology. He is responsible for the Laboratory Services and the Species Collections Room of the Faculty of Natural Sciences-University of Lury. Works with artisanal fishing and with monitoring of community marine reserves. She has coordinated and supervised monographs on inventories and collection of invertebrates in northern Mozambique. He is a professor in the chairs of Fishing Resources, Marine Ecology, Invertebrate Zoology and Histology.

Patrício Marques

He was born on 15th of September 1992, in Nacala-a-Velha district, Nampula province, Mozambique. He attended primary school at Mueria Primary School, Nacala-a-Velha, continued his studies at Cidade Alta Secondary School, Nacala Porto where he finished in 2010. In 2013 he entered Lúrio University, Faculty of Engineering where he finished his degree in Computer Engineering in 2017.  Currently, he is a lecturer and collaborator in the Pedagogical Department of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Lúrio, teaching the subject of Introduction to Informatics. He is a specialist in the development of mobile applications based on the Open Data Kit platform and is currently developing research related to database and software engineering. He is involved in community monitoring of fisheries resources in Cabo Delgado province.

Aniceto Alfredo

Master in Ecology, teaches at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, University Lúrio, subjects related to Fishing, Aquaculture and Marine Ecology. His research areas include the study of the population dynamics of commercially interesting fisheries resources in Mozambique, development of systems and strategies for extensive cultivation of marine organisms and dulcicolas. Since 2014, it has been involved in projects related to the sustainable use of fishing resources in partnership with the communities (CCP’s) specifically in the districts of Ibo, Palma, Mocimboa, Mecufi, Metuge. Currently, he is involved in research on the spatial-temporal dynamics of marine zooplankton, estuarine and dulcicola in the identification of eggs and fish larvae in northern Mozambique.

Gélica Eugénio Inteca

She was born in November 1989, and holds a degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Lúrio and a Masters in Natural Resources Management for Tropical Development from the University of Florence, Italy. She works with Sea Turtles, Marine Mammals, and with the Community Fisheries Council on Vamizi Island. Graduated in Marine Mammal Observation (MMO), Protected Species (PSO) and sound recording of bass water by Seychelles LMD in Devon, UK. Graduated in Conservation leadership by Fauna and Flora Org, in Alberta , Canada and member of the Alumini young conservanist group. Participated in the Marine Mammal Mapping of Quirimbas National Park in the Pharo Project implemented by Oikos-mocambique. Carried out research on Sea Turtles and Ecossietemas Services in the scope of environmental impact studies in Afungi-Palma. She is a lecturer in Animal Physiology and Community Development and works as Assistant Director of Postgraduate Studies, Research and Extension at the Faculty of Natural Sciences. Currently she has dedicated her work to Monitoring Marine Garbage, Humpback Whales and Sea Turtles and her great passion is Sea Turtles.

Liliett Francisco

Marine Biologist, specialist in Biodiversity Management and Conservation and holder of a Masters in Ecology. Lecturer at the University Lúrio-Faculdade de Ciências Naturais in the disciplines of Field Biology, Conservation Biology, Wildlife Management and Conservation Areas and Geographic Information System. He carried out research on benthic macroinvertebrates in the mangrove of Inhassunge district and in Pemba Bay. He also carried out works on biomass estimation and carbon stock in the mangrove in Sofala Bay and Pemba Bay using satellite images. He is currently working on mapping marine habitats in the Quirimbas National Park in Cabo Delgado

Graça Mandava Jaime

Born in Luabo-Chinde in Zambézia province, Mozambique. She has a degree in Biological Sciences and a Masters in Ecology from the University of Lúrio. Resident in Pemba for over 8 years. She is currently teaching a degree in Biological Sciences at UniLúrio – Faculty of Natural Sciences. Besides teaching she is a researcher in aquatic environments, having worked with macroalgae and intertidal seaweeds and developed inventories and monitoring of icthyofauna dulçaquícola. Her current area of interest is the taxonomy of freshwater fish fauna in Northern Mozambique, and in this context she has participated in research projects (Barcoding Aquatic Biodiversity of South-Eastern Africa funded by FNI) and training (Fish Identification Training, at South African Institute for Aquatic Biodiversity – SAIAB). He has a strong experience of community work.

Celina Cipriano Lupaka

She is interested in nature and biodiversity conservation, graduated in Biological Sciences in 2018 from the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University Lúrio. She has experience in fish identification using Event measurment software, monitoring of Whales, Sea Turtles and Birds on Vamizi Island and has a PADI qualification in Open Water diving.  He has done consulting work for ERM at Anadarko LNG – Area 1, and has also participated in some biodiversity seminars and workshops at Gorongosa National Park and Taratibu Reserve. She is currently working as a consultant for Eni Rovuma Basin’s “Community Development and Protection of Biodiversity” project with CICA and is a UGEA collaborator at the Faculty of Natural Sciences. She hopes to contribute to the conservation and sustainable use of the resources that the country has available.

João Paulo Macuio

He holds a Master’s degree in Ecology and holds a diving course in the category of dive master. Teaches at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, University Lúrio, subjects related to Marine Ecology, Invertebrate Zoology, Community Development and Swimming & Diving. His research areas are the study of the structure and density of Tridacnas (giant clams) and elasmobranchs (sharks and rays). Since 2014, it has been involved in projects related to the monitoring and marking of sharks in the Western Indian Ocean (WIO), through collaborative actions between the scientific community and local communities for conservation and management, specifically on the island of Vamizi, district of Palma. Currently, its area of interest is research on the behavioural biology of elasmobranchs (sharks and rays), including their movements and settlement of coral larvae and bivalve (tridacnas) larvae in northern and southern Mozambique.

Mansur Tarmomad

He was born in Macomía District, Cabo Delgado Province, Mozambican Nationality. Master in Applied Ecology from the University of Aveiro in partnership with the University Lúrio – Faculty of Natural Sciences and Degree in Animal Production from Eduardo Mondlane University. Lecturer at the Faculty of Natural Sciences in the course of Biological Sciences and Member of the Land Ecology Department. Currently teaches Cell Biology, General Physiology, Animal Physiology, Zoology of Vertebrates and Forest, Agricultural and Livestock Resources. He participates in national research projects in the area of Avifauna.
Environmental Consultant: Works as a consultant for bird studies in Mozambique.
Livestock Technician: Provides technical assistance in livestock species management.
Areas of interest: Avifauna and Animal Production.

JIkbal Alcolete

Salvador nanvonamuquitxo

He hold Master’s degree in Forestry Engineering from the Zambeze University in Mozambique, he is currently working as a Lecturer and Researcher for Lúrio University, Faculty of Natural Sciences in Pemba, he also in charge of the Department of Botany. He have been engaged in the implementation of the university outreach programs related to agriculture and forests. Furthermore, during this period apart from doing supervision and coaching to undergraduate thesis writing he have attended various scientific events. He published several papers related to forest conservation and the environment. he have also worked with several private organizations such as CESAL in the implementation of demonstration fields for agroforestry systems in the Metuge and Mecufí district in Cabo Delgado, he was engaged by Twigg Exploration and Mining Lda (Syrah Resources) to run a project on promotion of beekeeping in Balama district. I was also engaged by TECNOSERVE in the establishment of agricultural demonstration fields in the city of Pemba.
