Researchers from FCN participate in the course on personal survival techniques at sea, Personal Safety and Social Responsibility, First Aid, Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting.

Within the activities of the “Cabo Delgado Scientific Development” project financed by the Norwegian Embassy, several safety at sea courses were carried out. These courses are important for the admission of UniLúrio researchers on research vessels. The courses taught by ROTC are sanctioned by INAMAR (National Marine Institute) in accordance with section A-VI/1-1 of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Surveillance at Sea (STCW) 1978.

The theoretical activities took place at the Pemba Campus of the University of Lúrio and the practical activities in Beira where ROTC is based. Each course lasted two days.

For researchers who already have some experience at sea it was especially important to learn methods of survival and safety at sea. It was an interesting and highly enriching activity.

Besides the personal experience, the University gains mainly because it will have 6 new first aid specialists who are always needed in and out of the water.
